![]() ![]() Ethos, traditions and pillars makes gameplay more dynamic and there's a whole new legacy path focusing on bonuses to culture. I don't know what else to say, this is just cool. Instead of conquering foreign territories and converting everything you now have the option to merge into a completely new culture. I've always wanted cultures to develop relationships between each other and this DLC delivers. I'd prefer items be more unique and rare.ĬULTURE- The biggest change in this DLC and I'm very happy with it. As well as that, there is no shortage of inspired courtiers. If you have a duplicate Excalibur you can give it away to another ruler. I'd have thought legendary weapons like Excalibur should be one of a kind that you treasure and pass down generations but they're like Pokemon cards. I started my game as Alfred of Wessex with 2 Excaliburs (the lowest rarity) I thought okay maybe they reforged it into 2 swords like Ice from Game of Thrones but then I got another one in a siege and was gifted yet another. They're colour coded depending on rarity. The only problem I have is that items aren't unique. Weapons and armour increase your prowess and combat traits, royal court items increase your prestige and renown. ITEMS- Items were sorely missing from the vanilla release so I'm happy to see them introduced again. Hunts, feasts and random events lower your stress level effectively enough and apart from reforming a culture, prestige bonuses are still pretty useless for a feudal ruler. I rarely have a character get even level 1 stressed for very long. Amenities cost a significant amount and I'd argue aren't worth the bonuses you get from them. Court amenities can be useful to lower stress gain but I found myself reluctant to invest into them. It's way too easy to reach the top level and the bonuses from it aren't as significant as they probably should be. It has the same problem as fame and devotion. I managed to reach level 10 grandeur in my first lifetime without even trying. This is probably my least favourite of the new features. GRANDEUR- Grandeur is the overall reputation of your court. Anyone with a half decent PC will probably be fine. I'd have been happy with a text based system but again, this is a me problem. The throne room interface is laggy for me and can be annoying to navigate. I was probably overly critical about the idea of a 3D court but my fears were confirmed. Some of the events are wild like hunting bears in the English countryside but overall it's a welcome addition. ![]() Before RC vassals and subjects would barely interact with you beyond the usual events. Periodically you have the option to hold court where your vassals and subjects will make petitions. ROYAL COURT- The royal court adds an interesting new aspect to gameplay. I started my first playthrough as Alfred of Wessex. I'll break it down into 4 sections and talk about the positives and negatives. I've not been on the forum since release or watched any YouTube content about it so won't be influenced by anything except my own experience. Royal Court released a week ago and these are my thoughts so far. ![]()
